Well, I am just a concerned Mom whom is fairly knowledgeable with computers and internet safety. In my spare time I volunteer as what is known as a "Human Shield". I enter chatrooms posing as a young child,
then turn child predators over to police. Normally, within five minutes
I will get several IM's (instant messages) from adults looking for some
type of sexual relations with a minor. I can't even begin to tell you how many pedophiles are online along with adults that think there is no
such thing as 'age of consent'. There are some real sick people out there
that would love to get their hands on your daughter, son, niece, nephew, grandkids, etc. Many of these chatrooms have become preying ground
for pedophiles, and I'm there (along with many others) to shield the kids.

Generally, I just take up their time so that they aren't talking to a real
kid. At the end of the conversation I give them a good scare, letting them know I am an adult and that they have just broken the law by
soliciting sex on the internet to a minor. I then type up the penal code
for the laws they have broken and notify them I will be contacting the Police. This will usually scare them enough to either stay offline OR
think twice about talking to a minor again. I will then send all
information to the Police depending on the nature of the 'chat'. Should
any of my tips lead to a publicized arrest, I'll be sure to post it
somewhere on this site.

You would not believe how many adults out there (mostly male) that
do not care that a child is only 13, all they want is to meet up for
sexual relations! Sometimes they will even convince a child to get
involved with child pornography! I clearly state in my conversation
several times that I am a minor (as well as getting their age) just to be
sure this person is aware he/she is 'chatting' with a minor. Most of
them DO NOT CARE! They will act 'slick' and tell 'me' not to tell my
parents because "they could go to jail". They will always try to get 'my' personal information as well. If that were a real child, all they would
have to do is give a home phone number, and that pedophile can easily reverse check the number getting an ADDRESS! Also, they will give
out their phone number, so when the minor calls the pervert, he/she
can see the incoming number on caller ID, reverse check that number,
and now they have your home address!

Besides getting personal information and 'grooming' my 'character',
they also have no problems showing a minor their webcam. It is helpful
to me as I get a screen shot of their face or 'parts' for evidence, but it's SCARY to think an actual child could be viewing that cam! All the kid
needs to do is accept the invite to the webcam, and they see whatever
the pervert wants them to see.

I do not find these predators in adult rooms only, I find them in
Yahoo Girl Club rooms, recreational rooms, hobbies, sports, etc. I will
even get predators to IM me from my fake myspace profile. These
perverts look everywhere and anywhere for their victim. Most kids
think they are having an innocent chat with someone but in reality,
these perverts only have one thing in mind. Hundreds of children
and teens are abducted each year due to these chatrooms and blogs. The pervert generally gets the child to trust them, so the kid thinks of
them as a 'friend' and trusts them with all types of personal stuff.
Sometimes they convince the minor to meet up with them, and that's
how a child or teen can EASILY be abducted.

If you check out some of the links in the "teens" section on this website,
you will see several stories about missing children, most of which had
met someone online. You can also go into a Yahoo, AOL, MSN chatroom,
or even create a profile at myspace.com to see for yourself how bad it
is out there. These conversations get extremely explicit, enough to
make the hair on your neck stand up! Online predators are a real
threat and being online should be taken very seriously.

Since I've been doing this, I really wanted to help other parents become aware of the dangers out there. I also wanted to try and get through to children and teens, helping them to understand the dangers out here in cyberland. I'm sure I can't help everyone, but if it saves just one kid,
then I have accomplished something. I have many friends with children
who don't know much about the internet at all, yet their kids are
surfing everyday right under their roof. I feel it's important to watch
over your child's activities and 'snoop' as to where they are going. There
is also plenty of software to help you with this if you are unfamiliar
with computers, which can be found in the software links section.

I plan on adding more information, areas, and links to this website so
check back frequently. I've also included an email for parents or even to children to ask questions! I'll be glad to answer what I can and if I don't know the answer, I can direct you the right way. I hope to educate at
least a few people and lend a helping hand. No question is stupid and
I deal with "newbies" all the time.

My goal for posing as a child in chatrooms, is to basically 'poison the
well'. I want pedophiles and perverts to be afraid of using the internet
as a tool to abduct, rape, etc. kids and teens. There are plenty of us out
there and we are slowly poisoning that well. Of course some Police do
the same thing, but since their time and resources are limited, us private citizens do what we can to help out. We are basically a Internet Neighborhood Watch. I have to deal with a lot of sick people and see disgusting pictures and text, but if I'm reading it, and not a kid, then my mission is accomplished.

As long as our children aren't safe from predators, predators aren't
safe from us! ŪPeeJ
